An important conservation area for the natural environment and endangered animal species, the Sigean African Reserve, nestling on the edge of the Bages-Sigean lagoons, is home to nearly 900 mammals, 600 reptiles and 2,000 birds living in its 300 hectares in semi-captivity.
Open to the public throughout the year, the Sigean Reserve provides two ways to enjoy the space:
A trip of about an hour by car, passing through the African Bush, the Tibetan bear park, the lion park and the African savannah, where you can admire white rhinoceroses, zebra and Somalian donkeys, amongst others.
There's a walking circuit of about three hours, for adults and children to go in search of antelopes, ostriches and other animals of the African plain. In the course of your walk you can also find the chimpanzees' island, the vivarium and the Œil de Ca lake, dotted with pink flamingos and pink-backed pelicans...
About fifteen kilometers from Narbonne, in the heart of a quiet valley of the Corbières, nestles in a jewel of cypresses and pines, the former Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Fontfroide, a picturesque charm set, founded at the end of Eleventh century by Benedictine monks and affiliated to the Order of Cîteaux in 1145.
Admirably restored, this Cistercian monument, open to the public throughout the year, is discovered during a guided tour of about an hour or during a thematic visit… The opportunity to admire serenity-filled places, such as the 12th century abbey church with its modern stained glass windows, the cloister with Romanesque columns, the majestic chapter house with marble columns, the buildings of the monks and lay brothers, not to mention the terraced gardens and the beautiful rose garden composed of no less than 2500 roses !
Tastings of aop Corbières wines from the estate, as well as many cultural events, ranging from classical music concerts to exhibitions, through the May plant festival, are on offer.

In 1986, Pierre Richard discovered the Domaine de l'Évêque, 50 hectares of garrigue and vineyards nestled between rocks and ponds, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Immediately seduced by the authentic and wild site, he decides to restore this vineyard of 20 hectares. For him, the vines are "capricious damsels, who want this and then who do not want that, who want rain but not too much, who want the sun but not more…" And he likes to be at their service.
Pierre Richard elaborates each year the assembly of his wines according to the formulas which made their reputation, then directs his choices of assembly according to the particular properties of the vintages.
They have a deep ruby color, a strong character, a beautiful tannic structure, a complex and rich nose, notes of red fruits and spices. The vintages, the wooden breeding, the volumes and the choices of assembly produce all the nuances.
For 28 years, Pierre Richard, his sister Véronique and their team at the Domaine and Paris, are all involved to defend the wines of the Domaine and the region. Patiently, with great respect, humility and hard work, the Domaine de l'Evêque vineyard has been restructured, enlarged and deployed qualitatively.
With time, Pierre Richard and Véronique became winemakers, with real know-how and excellent expertise in the qualitative development of Corbières wines. They know, develop, participate in the deployment of the culture of the good wines of the South of France.
The "good taste" here is also the meaning of the reception of the general public. Pierre Richard and Véronique are used to staging, to participate in creations.
In terms of wine too, they appeal to their artistic talent !
