The highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland.
The landmark of Lauterbrunnen and the highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland can be visited from behind in summer by means of a specially designed gallery. During the high season, the Staubbach falls are illuminated.
This breathtaking natural spectacle can be admired up close thanks to the "Staubbach Gallery": From the foot of the waterfall, a short, steep ascent leads in about 10 minutes on foot to the "Staubbachhubel", from where you can reach the waterfall through a tunnel and a few stairs. How the Staubbach Falls was first measured in the 18th century can be read on one of the two information boards at the foot of the Staubbach Falls.
With its ten glacier waterfalls in the interior of the mountain, made accessible by a tunnel lift, the Trümmelbach Falls are unique in Europe. The Trümmelbach alone drains the huge glacier walls of the Eiger (3970 m), Mönch (4099 m) and Jungfrau (4158 m) with up to 20,000 liters of water per second from its catchment area of 24 square kilometers, which is up to half covered with snow and ice. The Jungfrau-Aletsch area has been declared a World Nature Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Trümmelbach is listed in the "Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance".
The Trümmelbach Falls can be reached by car from Bern/Basel/Zurich/Geneva via the N6 motorway or from Lucerne/Zurich via the N8. At Interlaken, take the Wilderswil exit and continue in the direction of Wilderswil and Lauterbrunnen. After you have passed through the village of Lauterbrunnen, you will reach the Trümmelbach Falls after about 3 km.
By train you can reach the Trümmelbach Falls via Interlaken (SBB/BLS/Zentralbahn) to Lauterbrunnen (BOB). With connection, a post bus runs from there to the trümmelbachfälle stop.
The Trümmelbach glacier waterfalls are open daily from the beginning of April to the beginning of November from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in July and August from 8: 30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Admission:
Single adult CHF. 14.-
Single child, from 6 to 15 years CHF. 6.-

Historic buildings, impressive high pavements with history, the white castle on the Schlossberg and the great view over the lake and the imposing Bernese Alps in the background – Thun's charm enchants locals and guests alike.
Thun is the gateway to the Bernese Oberland at the northwestern end of Lake Thun. The river Aare, which continues to flow from Lake Thun towards Bern, shapes the cityscape of Switzerland's eleventh largest city with around 44,000 inhabitants.
The landmark of the city is the mighty Thun Castle with the tower built between 1180 and 1190, which towers majestically over the old town. The tower halls house a historical museum, which displays finds from the last 800 years with reference to the region and history and is supplemented by an annually changing special exhibition. The highlight of the castle, however, is the restored Knights' Hall from the 12th century. The view from the castle tower of the mountains and the lake is also unique.
Unique are the historic high pavements in the old town of Thun. A stroll through the cobblestone streets is not only worthwhile because of them. In addition to venerable rows of houses, small shops on various levels invite you to browse and discover.
Thanks to its enormous versatility, the city of Thun is worth a visit at any time of the year: While in spring the charming old town and the inviting river and lake promenade come back to life, in summer cultural open-air events such as the popular Lake Thun Games set the pace.
Hardly any other city has preserved its historic features like Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Bern's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has one of the longest weather-protected shopping promenades in Europe, with 6 kilometers of arcades known as Lauben.
Unique is the medieval atmosphere of the city with the numerous fountains, sandstone facades, alleys and historic towers. The most beautiful view over the old town surrounded by the Aare is offered by the elevated rose garden above the Bären Park or the platform of the 101-meter-high cathedral tower. The former redoubts and bastions drop steeply towards the river. The boutiques, bars and cabaret stages of the old town, partly in the cellar vaults, as well as the small street cafés attract locals as well as many tourists. Despite its good public transport system, Bern's city centre is best explored on foot.
The world's most comprehensive collection of works by the artist Paul Klee can be found in the Zentrum Paul Klee on the outskirts of the city. The Albert Einstein House testifies to the physicist's stay in Bern at the beginning of the 20th century and can be ideally combined with a visit to the Einstein Museum. From the Historical Museum to the Art Museum, the Swiss Alpine Museum and the Museum of Communication, Bern offers a wide range of exhibitions.
Bern is the seat of government in Switzerland. Only a few steps from the main station, the government building rises above the city. Usually the doors of the parliament building are open to visitors, and if you are lucky, you may also meet one of the members of the government in the alleys of the city.
In summer, the Aare invites you to the ultimate bathing fun; very good, experienced swimmers can float in the clean Aare with a view of the nearby Bundeshaus. Also along the river are the Botanical Garden, the Dählhölzli Zoo and the old district of the Matte. Bern and the bear, its heraldic animal, are inextricably linked. When visiting the city, a visit to the Bear Park, the habitat of a bear family, must not be dispensed with.
Shopping, gastronomy, culture…
Embedded in an impressive mountain panorama, Lucerne, the gateway to Central Switzerland, is located on Lake Lucerne. Thanks to its sights, attractive shopping offer, unique location on the lake and the nearby excursion mountains Rigi, Pilatus or Stanserhorn, the city is the destination of many tour groups and individual guests on their journey through Switzerland.
Lucerne's cityscape is characterised by the covered, medieval Chapel Bridge, which with its gable paintings, is considered one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. Another landmark of the city is the Musegg Wall, which has been preserved in its original fortified form except for one tower.
Historic, frescoed houses surround picturesque squares such as the wine market in the car-free old town. Lucerne is a city of squares and churches. The Jesuit church from the 17th century is considered the first sacral baroque building in Switzerland and the two towers of the Hofkirche are an integral part of the cityscape. The dying lion, which was carved into the rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss who died in the Tuileries in 1792, is one of the most famous monuments in Switzerland. And with the 112-metre-long Bourbaki Panorama, Lucerne has one of the few surviving monumental circular paintings in the world.
Tradition and modernity are close together in Lucerne, because the city has also made a name for itself for innovative design. Among the architectural highlights is the futuristic culture and congress center of the French star architect Jean Nouvel. The KKL is also a landmark of the "festival city of Lucerne" with a wide variety of cultural events throughout the year.

In Wengen, the town centre is crossed on the village road. Shortly before the church you branch off downhill and first continue on the road, then steeply on a stairway and finally, with a slight incline, on a shady forest path in the air. In the flank of the Männlichen, the route then slowly stretches out of the valley in several wide turns. The view of the long, deeply incised Lauterbrunnen Valley is magnificent. The scenery is dominated by the majestic Jungfrau massif. Its striking pre-summit, the Silberhorn, encased in a boldly curved glacier line, is a unique eye-catcher. Over spicy fragrant alpine pastures and through shady mountain forest you reach the junction Parawengi. From there, the ascent leads up the steep slope to the Männlichen Plateau at 2230 m above sea level. The view from the crest of the long mountain is impressive and rich in contrast. The triumvirate always in the eye presents itself in a generous expanse of the valley basin of Grindelwald, which is bordered in the east by the rock bastions of the Wetterhorn and the Mättenberg. The view continues from Lake Thun over the Niederhorn to the Schrattenfluh.
You can now enjoy a three-hour walk in the tracks of the great musician Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
The Felix-Mendelssohn footpath was officially inaugurated in mid-August 2006. The path leads from Schiltwald to Staldenflu above Mettlenalp to Wengernalp and is well sign-posted. Wengen owes its oldest drawing of the place to Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who was also a talented artist. On 21 August 1842 he produced a superb sketch of the village with the Jungfrau massif in the background. This is considered the oldest depicion of Wengen. In honour of the composer, the Mendelssohn memorial was inaugurated on 14 August 2004. The artist loved Switzerland. He recorded his travel impressions in the form of letters and, above all, pictures.

You hike over the ruggedly romantic Alpine pastures between Männlichen and Alpiglen, always eye to eye with the Eiger North Wall. Away from any hustle and bustle, the trail leads through a fascinating landscape, crossing meadows and pastures full of wild anemones, buttercups, gentian, alpine roses and cotton grass. Hear the shrill whistle of a marmot and the rustling of the wind in the grass. Smell the tang of pine when the trail snakes through the forest. Cool off in the shade of ancient gnarled trees.
The Romantic Trail branches off towards Teufenschlucht (gorge) at the southernmost tip of the Männlichen plateau. Hiking first over meadows and then gently downhill, you reach the upper pastures of Alp Gummi from where the trail winds slightly uphill and then down to Alp Bustiglen (1875 m). The last section leads along the lower slopes of the Eiger to the picture-postcard buildings at Alpiglen (1615 m). The hike takes about 2.5 hours.
The path goes away from the village centre in a northerly direction trought the Galliweidli part of the village. Above the sawmill you turn off to the right by the goat huts. You now follow the forest path as far as Äussere Allmend (alpine hut) and then continue going up in a northerly direction as far as the Leiterhorn. En route you repeatedly get a wonderful view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. At the Leiterhorn vantage-point you gaze drops down vertically to Zweilütschinen and on as far as Wilderswil and Interlaken. You return by the path you came up on.

The narrow path starts a little above the Kleine Scheidegg, which is located at 2,061 m above sea level and leads in the direction of Wengernalp. It winds above the railway tracks of the Wengernalpbahn through the slopes of the Lauberhorn in a westerly direction to the Rinderhütte at 2,137 m above sea level. From there you go over open alpine meadows, a bit steeper descending to the Wengernalp, which is located at 1,873 m above sea level.
The Eiger Trail runs along the foot of the famous Eiger North Wall from the Eigergletscher station down to Alpiglen. The mountain trail winds through a picturesque landscape, passing rushing streams and bizarre rock formations. The notorious Eiger North Wall is so close that you can actually sense its mystical and legend-laden aura. The hike is also to be recommended in the uphill direction and both starting and arrival points are easily reached by rail. The downhill hike takes about 2 ½ hours.
Eiger North Wall – sheer drama
The Eiger North Wall, towering above Kleine Scheidegg, presents mountaineers with one of the greatest challenges in the Alps. In 1936, four young climbers met their deaths on the wall, a notoriously dramatic event that was later made into a film. Two years later, a four-man rope, Anderl Heckmaier, Heinrich Harrer, Ludwid Vörg and Fritz Kasparek, succeeded in making the first ascent. Today, over 30 routes lead up the Eiger North Wall to the summit at 3,970 metres above sea level. On several of these, climbers have to master grade 10 difficulties, an extremely tough challenge. In 2008, Swiss mountain climber Ueli Steck scaled the Heckmair route solo in only 2 hours and 47 minutes, setting a new speed record.
