  • Festive meetings await you throughout the year. A well-stocked calendar alternates renowned festivals, traditional festivals (Catalan folklore, Sardana, summer corsos...), craft market, local produce markets, exhibitions...
  • The Rencontres Cinémaginaire: Since 1985, the Cinémaginaire Encounters offer in May another look at cinema.
  • The Breeding Fair: The town of Argelès-sur-Mer, in close collaboration with the breeders' union Albères-Vallespir, organizes the breeding fair every year in the spring. A timely event recalling that the Albères were for a long time farmland and that pastoralism is still implanted. More than 40 breeders participate in this fair where local products are also presented through a farmers' market.
  • The Breakthroughs of Argelès-sur-Mer: in July. A prestigious platform of artists multiplied on three places of concerts and entertainment.
  • The Valmy International Art Fair: Every year, at the end of September and for three weeks, the Valmy Park opens its doors for the International Art Fair, organized by the Argelésienne Artistic Association.
  • The Games of the Spirit Festival: For more than a decade now, several hundred players have come from all over France to compete at a very high level and, at the same time, discover Argelès and its surroundings.
  • Aplec de Valmy: Aplec means gathering in Catalan. That of Valmy, organized each year on the first weekend of September by the Foment de la Sardane, was created in 1974. Sardane lovers come from all over the department and from Catalonia South to dance to the rhythm of the coblas and thus perpetrate the Catalan culture in a friendly atmosphere.
  • Saint-Côme and Saint-Damien: These are the Patrons of Argelès-sur-Mer that the city honors every year at the end of September. Legend has it that in the seventeenth, Argeles was affected by an epidemic of plague. It ceased on the feast of the saints on September 27, 1652 and the people then made the vow to perform a solemn procession each year to honor them... Today, Saint-Côme and Saint-Damien is a real popular festival with balls, animations, parade of gegants, Castellers, sardanes and exhibitions.
  • The Flamenco Festival in Valmy: Festival with international influence, exclusively dedicated to flamenco offering an exceptional program.

The Catalonians' sacred mountain

Canigou, the Catalonian's sacred mountain, steeped in mystery and legend and culminating at an altitude of 2784 metres, majestically overlooks the Roussillon plain and the Mediterranean Sea. Situated near to Prades, this Pyrenean mountain is even more impressive in winter, when its snow-covered outline is seen clearly against the surrounding countryside of the coast...

Highly prized by ramblers, the climb to the peak of Canigou, which is possible from June to September, has some magnificent viewpoints. To climb this emblematic Eastern Pyrenean mountain, walkers have two possible departure points: from the Chalet des Cortalets (2150 m in altitude, 3h30 return trip); or from the Mariailles refuge (1718 m in altitude, 8h return trip). At the summit, a spectacular panorama of the Pyrenees mountain range, the Roussillon plain and the Mediterranean coast will make up for all the effort expended during the climb! It is, however, essential to consult the weather forecast before setting off, because fog and storms can make the climb dangerous.

On the first Sunday in August, the famous and testing Canigou Race (Course du Canigou) is held, a mountain race of 34km from Vernet-les-Bains to the summit of the Canigou and back, a climb of 2180 metres!
