Located 1310 m above sea level in the Monte Rotondo massif, in southern Corsica, the beautiful Creno Lake is the only glacial lake in Corsica surrounded by a pine forest laricio. This woodland decor and water lilies that partially cover it make a lake really different from the others, of incredible beauty. Count 1h to 1h20 walk from the parking.
Bonifacio is located at the southern tip of the island. It is known for its medieval citadel perched on a cliff. The bastion of the Étendard dating from the thirteenth century houses a small museum that traces the history of the city. The staircase of the king of Aragon, 187 steps high, was said to be cut in the cliff in one night. Located to the south-east of Corsica, the uninhabited islands of Lavezzi form a nature reserve, with their granite rocks and their sandy beaches.
The beach of the Liscia with turquoise waters, located at 650 m. camping and accessible by a private path bucolic, is cleaned and monitored from July 1 to August 31.
The district of Le Borgo in Ajaccio is where you will find the Fesch Museum, the fine arts museum of Corsica's capital city. Napoleon's uncle, Cardinal Joseph Fesch, was a great art collector and commissioned the building in the 19th century. When he died he bequeathed an impressive collection of art objects to the city where he was born, including around 16,000 paintings.
The Fesch Museum houses one of France's largest collections of Italian paintings, with three departments being particularly well represented: the Italian Primitives, Roman Baroque painting and Neapolitan Baroque painting.
The Fesch Museum also has a graphic arts room full of Corsican and Napoleonic exhibits.
The museum organises a variety of activities all year round: lecture series, themed guided tours of the collections, visual art workshops for children, and concerts on Sundays.
All around the port and its citadel, the old town of Ajaccio offers pretty narrow streets with colourful tall houses. The Maréchal-Foch square is featuring a fountain and is very charming with its palm trees and its plane trees.
Napoleon Bonaparte's birth house is in one of the narrow streets of the old town, rue Saint-Charles. The Bonaparte house is today home to a museum exhibiting its personal souvenirs. Other pieces (documents and medals) are on display in the Salon Napoléonien in the town hall. Many other museums are not to be missed, such as the Fesch museum bringing together Italian paintings and the A Bandera museum tracing the history and culture of Corsica.
The Gulf of Ajaccio features beautiful beaches and seaside resorts like Porticcio.
Overhanging the Sagone gulf and its marina, the village of Cargèse is known for its two beautiful churches (Latin and Greek) facing each other. The small squares decorated with trees, the numerous vegetable gardens and house gardens decorated with flowers also contribute to make this place a charming site.
On the West side of Ajaccio, the Sanguinaires road follows the sea and its red rocks and leads to the Parata peninsula. The promontory at the Parata headland, where stands a Genoese tower, offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Sanguinaires archipelago, but also of the surrounding coasts. It is at the end of the day that colours are the most beautiful.
A waymarked walking trail which boasts numerous viewpoints takes in the rich local flora. In spring, the location is even more charming when it is dotted with pretty wild flowers.
This archipelago off the Parata headland consists of four islands. It is possible to observe them from the Parata headland. Boat trips are also offered.
The village of Piana, a designated Most Beautiful Village of France, overhangs the Gulf of Porto. The setting is magical!
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Piana creeks offer a magnificent show of rock masses, peaks, mineral sculptures, needles and red granite cliffs. Overhanging the sea, this extraordinary site with numerous shapes is a dream-like place. Some rocks conjure up animals and figures, like a dog's head, a heart and a bishop. Colours are magnificent, especially at sunset! And what a contrast with the deep blue of the sea!
The Piana forest and its footpaths let visitors discover the surrounding nature and creeks from a different angle.
The waterfall of the Veil of the Bride is a superb cascade high of 70 meters, located near the village of Bocognano (40 km of Ajaccio, 40 mn).
All around the hilltop village of Coti-Chiavari, mountains and hills are covered with dense green forests. The road, lined with majestic eucalyptus, offers a panoramic view of the coast. The pass road is great for cycling.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Gulf of Porto is magnificent with its red granite cliffs overhanging the sea. It encompasses the following must-see sites: the Piana creeks in the South, and the Girolata peninsula as well as the Scandola nature reserve in the North.
The small seaside resort of Porto, and its landmark Genoese Tower, is a very popular place with tourists in the summer.
Protected by the Corsica Regional Nature Park, the Nature reserve of Scandola covers 900 hectares of land and 1000 hectares of sea. This wild peninsula of volcanic origin is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The landscapes of an astonishing beauty are a series of red cliffs, peaks, hollow sculptures (tafoni), caves... Fauna and flora are exceptional. The reserve indeed is home to numerous species of rare birds such as fishing ospreys, peregrine falcons, crested cormorants, ash puffins and golden eagles. The collection of Posidonias (flowering marine plants) growing there shows how pure the water is.
For all those wishing to discover this wonderful site, the only means to reach it is by boat or on foot via a beautiful footpath.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this megalithic prehistoric site is one of the biggest in Europe and is famous for its lines of statue-menhirs with carved faces.
A fascinating natural circuit takes visitors right up close to the statue-menhirs.

The Corsica Regional Nature Park extends over 350,510 hectares, which represents about 40 % of the island, and covers both Corsica départements: Southern Corsica and Upper Corsica. It protects forests and mountain massifs of the central part of the island, as well as some renowned sites, such as the Col de Bavella pass, the mountain lakes, the nature reserve of Scandola and the Restonica gorges. This park is a paradise for those who love nature and beautiful landscapes, but also for hiking fans who can follow the GR 20 hiking trail, the famous long-distance footpath crossing the island from the Northwest to the Southeast. Other footpaths, also pleasant and rich in places of interest to discover, take walkers along the coast and through the interior of Corsica – like the Mare a Mare trail in the Upper Corsica and the Mare e Monti, which connects Cargèse to Calenzana.
This site is a wonderful, wild, rocky gorge. At the foot of the high rock faces flows the Golo, the famous torrent that crosses the island. The Scala di Santa Regina road winds its way to the Niolo region and boasts numerous viewpoints of the gorges.
In the Gulf of Valinco, the small port of Propriano is a tourist seaside resort renowned for its beaches, its atmosphere and all the different water sports on offer there.
Geographic heart of the island, Corte was also the capital of Corsica from 1755 until 1769 during the "government of the Corsican nation" of Pascal Paoli. The town has preserved much evidence from this period, such as the National palace, which was the headquarters of this government and the Paoli square, where a bronze statue of Pascal Paoli stands.
The old town has an authentic character. Its old houses of schist and with Genoese venetian blinds form a harmonious architectural whole. The 15th-century Annunciation church and the Gaffori square with the statue and the house of general Gaffori are good places to visit. A viewpoint looks down on to the confluence of three rivers, the Restonica, the Tavignanu and the Orta.
Dominating the old town, the fortifications of the citadel are home to the Anthropology regional museum of Corsica. The southern point of the surrounding wall boasts a second level, a rocky promontory on which the Vincentello d'Istria castle stands. This eyrie offers a striking view of the town and the mountains.
On the outskirts of the town of Corte begin the Restonica gorges. The Restonica river lined with rocks and forests, is easily accessible on foot. Moreover, the torrent is a very popular location with swimmers. It's guaranteed to cool you down! The Restonica valley is also perfect for the practice of the other activities, such as hiking and the climbing.
The narrow road of the gorges, fifteen kilometres long, leads to the Grotelle sheepfolds, a location dotted with dry-stone buildings. This place offers a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and is the departure point for hikes in the upper Restonica valley, and especially for the Melo lake and the Capitello lake.
Located in the high valley of Restonica, a few kilometers from Corte, the glacial lakes of Melo and Capitello are among the best known and most frequented in the region. The start of the hike is at Bergeries de Grotelle, at the end of the D623, narrow and winding road that goes up the gorges of the Restonica from Corte. Count 1 hour walk for the Melo. On the way back, a dip in one of the natural pools that line the valley is an experience not to be missed.
The Alta Rocca is a beautiful group of mountains and hills dotted with oak forests, chestnut trees and pines. This sector has numerous hilltop villages, such as that of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano. Near this village is a beautiful Genoese bridge, the Spin'a Cavallu.
Zonza, a mountain village with granite houses, is a pleasant setting-out point for walkers, especially for an excursion to the Bavella massif.
This massif is known for its magnificent pink granite peaks which can measure up to 900 metres high. The Col de Bavella pass, reaching 1,218 metres at its highest point, offers striking viewpoints of the impressive rock faces with jagged ridges. At the bottom, the Bavella forest mainly consists of pines and fir trees.
The Bavella massif offers a wide choice of sports activities: climbing, via ferrata (secure climbing path), hikes and canyoning in Solenzara waters.
Reaching 2,710 metres at its highest point, the Monte Cinto is the highest peak of Corsica. Climbing it via the Biccarellu corridor is for confirmed ramblers only and takes around 7 hours. The view of the whole island from the top is breathtaking!
On a natural site of nearly 3ha. you will discover the hidden life of turtles. From America to the Mediterranean, through Asia and Africa, all continents are represented.
